The Kitchener Rangers were firing on all cylinders Friday night, delivering an impressive 6–3 win over the visiting Niagara Ice Dogs and stretching their winning streak to two games. The performance showcased the team’s offensive depth, leadership, and growing momentum as the season continues to heat up.
After a tightly contested first period, the Rangers turned up the intensity and took full control of the game in the middle frame, leaving Niagara struggling to keep pace with Kitchener’s relentless attack.
Slow Start, Strong Finish
Both teams traded goals early on, setting the tone for what looked like it would be a close contest. Niagara managed to edge ahead and take a 2–1 lead at the end of the first period, putting Kitchener on the back foot heading into the middle frame.
However, the Rangers wasted no time responding.
As soon as the second period began, Kitchener shifted gears. Their passing became sharper, their forecheck more aggressive, and their shooting far more dangerous. The Rangers went on a four-goal scoring spree between the second period and the early moments of the third.
Leading the charge was captain Cameron Reid, who found the back of the net twice during the offensive surge. His leadership and clinical finishing played a pivotal role in swinging the momentum firmly in Kitchener’s favour.
Chromiak Leads From the Blue Line
While the forwards dominated the scoreboard, it was defenceman Jakub Chromiak who truly stood out as the game’s top performer. Chromiak recorded three assists on the night, constantly jumping into the play, creating opportunities from the back end, and setting up his teammates with smart, precise puck movement.
His all-around performance earned him first star honours, reflecting his impact on both ends of the ice.
Reid, with his two-goal effort, was named the second star of the game, a deserved recognition after providing the offensive spark Kitchener needed to pull away.
Ice Dogs Push Back, But Rangers Respond Quickly
Niagara attempted to claw their way back into the contest late in the game. Liam Spencer scored on the power play, cutting Kitchener’s lead to two and briefly giving the Ice Dogs a glimmer of hope.
That hope, however, was short-lived.
Just 11 seconds later, Andrew Vermeulen buried an empty-net goal to restore order and put the game completely out of reach. It was a dagger that sealed the 6–3 victory and brought the crowd to its feet.
Rangers Keep Rolling in the Standings
Friday night’s win marked the second straight game in which Kitchener scored six goals, following their dominant victory over the Oshawa Generals earlier in the week. The back-to-back high-scoring performances are a clear sign of a team finding its rhythm at the right time.
With the win, the Rangers improved their record to 15-7-2-0, giving them 32 points in 24 games and pushing them to the top of the Midwest Division.
The confidence around the club is growing, and their attacking style of play is beginning to produce consistent results.
Next Stop: Brantford
Kitchener’s busy weekend continued as they prepared to travel to Brantford to take on the Bulldogs on Saturday night. With momentum on their side and offensive production clicking, the Rangers headed into the matchup looking to extend their streak even further.
